Halle Bailey and Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., aka DDG, once captivated fans with their love story, showing off their public displays of affection and sharing a 17-month-old son, Halo, after initially trying to hide her pregnancy.
However, what many believed would be a happy ending ended up in a split in October 2024 after more than a two-year relationship.
Though the YouTube star and musician claimed it was “the best path forward for both” of them, The Little Mermaid star later obtained a restraining order against her ex, citing physical and emotional abuse.

The Start of Halle Bailey and DDG’s Romance
Bailey and DDG was first romantically linked in January 2022 after attending Usher’s residency in Las Vegas together.
Hashtag #Usher even trended at the time after the young couple were spotted at his show.
In a footage by The Shade Room, DDG could be seen enjoying his drink while Bailey, who was sitting by his side, excitedly exclaim, “Oh my god!” over what she saw on stage.
There were also photos of them together with Usher and DDG was comfortably putting his hand on Bailey’s shoulder.
The Red Carpet Debut and Other Event Appearances
DDG and Bailey made their red carpet debut as a couple at the BET Awards in June 2022.
The 25-year-old actress even admitted to Extra that DDG was her “boo.” “I have my boo with me today,” she said.
In the same month, they also hard launched their romance on Bailey’s TikTok, where DDG appeared and the two did some vocal warm-ups together.
“Singing lessons with @DDG,” the caption of her now-deleted video read.
In August 2022, the pair attended Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles, followed by the 5th annual Wearable Art Gala in October of the same year.
They also went to the premiere of Avatar 2: The Way of Water together in December 2022.
Third Party Rumors
In February 2023, rumors about DDG and Bailey’s split started to circulate online, especially after the latter’s ex-girlfriend Rubi Rose tweeted something about seeing her old clothes her ex’s new girlfriend was allegedly wearing.
“Having ur b*tch where my clothes is crazy lol,” it read.
Though Rose didn’t name drop, Bailey was seen wearing a black and white T-Shirt in a post on Instagram that the internet personality previously donned in 2020.
To add more fuel to the fire, DDG unfollowed Bailey and posted a cryptic tweet. “All these girls the same, ain’t no way,” he wrote.
He later clarified that he no cheating happened. “Nobody cheated on nobody btw. Don’t take my tweets too serious,” he tweeted next.
Later, Bailey addressed the rumors in a post on Twitter. “The devil is working lol Please don’t feel into the lies, especially from a third party. Stay blessed everyone,” it read.
DDG refollowed Bailey after that.
DDG Released a Song Seemingly Taking Aim at Halle Bailey’s Press Tour for The Little Mermaid
All eyes were on Bailey when she played the role of Ariel in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid. However, as many celebrated her newfound fame, DDG seemed to be unhappy about it.
In fact, released a new song, “Famous,” which appeared to take aim at his girlfriend’s press tour for her movie.
“Filmin’ a movie now you kissing dudes / You know I love you a lot / I don’t give a f--k if that s--t for promo / I don’t wanna see this s--t no more,” the lyrics read. “Why is y’all holdin’ hands in the photo? / You know I’m insecure, that’s a no-no.”
Bailey held hands with co-star Jonah Hauer-King, who portrayed Prince Eric in the film, at the London premiere of their film.
“Fall in love, I hate that s--t / Knockin’ me off my grind, I can’t f--k with relationships,” the lyrics continued. “I ain’t even got enough time in a day for me to chase a bitch / I don’t even ask for much, I ask you to do the basic s--t / Hardest thing I did was fall in love with a famous b-tch.”
The Pregnancy Rumors
Bailey started to be seen wearing baggy clothes whenever she attended events with DDG in the latter months of 2023.
In September of the said year, she donned an oversized black dress at The Love Album listening party in New York City.
She also wore a droopy yellow outfit at Milan Fashion Week and another loose black-and-white attire at the Gucci Anora show.
At the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London, where she was honored, she sported a strapless black dress with a full petticoat under the skirt that flared it out around her waist, seemingly hiding her tummy.
She was also spotted wearing sweater and sweatpants a week before, further fueling claims that she was pregnant.
Welcoming Halo
Though Bailey and DDG kept their pregnancy a secret, The Color Purple star announced that they had welcomed a child in January 2024 on Instagram.
She posted a photo of her hand holding her little baby boy’s hand and showing off the newborn’s bracelet with the name “Halo.”
“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son,” she wrote in the caption. “Welcome to the world my halo…the world is desperate to know you.”
She then released her underwater maternity footage, a combination of clips and photos edited together.
“Missing my belly already, but i obviously had to do underwater pics,” her caption read.
Breakup Rumors
In April 2024, breakup rumors started to emerge after DDG and Bailey unfollowed each other on Instagram.
They also deleted most of their pictures together. However, a rep for Bailey told TMZ that they were still together, going strong, and parenting their three-month-old son together.
Unveiling Halo to The World
In July 2024, the couple decided to unveil their six-month-old son’s face to the world in a vlog on YouTube and an array of now-deleted pictures on Instagram.
The family of three donned coordinated outfits—Bailey in a sleeveless sequin gown, DDG in a matching sparkling top and black sunglasses, and Halo in a white onesie.
DDG and Halle Bailey’s Breakup
A few months after showing Halo’s face to the public, DDG announced his and Bailey’s breakup in a statement posted on his Instagram Story.
“After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared. Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. Co-Parenting Halo
In December 2024, Bailey posted photos of Halo’s first birthday with DDG on Instagram. The two seemed to have a good co-parenting relationship for their child.
“Happy birthday to my halo. God gave me the greatest gift in you,” she wrote. “Time flies when you’re having fun & mommy just can’t believe that you’re one.”
DDG also posted a shot on Snapchat, featuring Halo and a chocolate cupcake with a candle before him.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY HALO!!!!!! HE GREW UP OVERNIGHT,” he wrote.
Halle Bailey’s Restraining Order Against DDG
On Tuesday, May 13, news broke that Bailey obtained a restraining order against DDG, accusing him of physical, emotional, verbal, and financial abuse.
The restraining order was reportedly filed on May 13 in the Los Angeles Country Superior Court.,
According to the court documents obtained by USA Today, the two broke up due to his “temper and lack of respect” towards Bailey.
She also claimed that her ex had a habit of “badmouthing” her as a parent on social media, resulting in online threats and “hate” directed toward her.
Bailey also alleged (via PageSix) that DDG attacked her multiples times that caused her bruises and a chipped tooth.
While picking up Halo from Bailey’s home, the two had an argument after she tried to discuss a visitation schedule.
As she was buckling the baby into his car seat, she claimed he repeatedly asked her to get out of the car. The former couple then engaged in a tussle as Bailey was worried about leaving her crying child with DDG in his agitated state.
From there, the physical abuse began as DDG allegedly pulled her hair and pushed her face into the steering wheel that chipped her front tooth. Despite what happened, she stayed in the car to ensure Halo’s safety

She demanded no-contact and stay-away orders for herself and Halo and required DDG to remain 100 yards away from them and to stop posting about them on social media. She also requested for full legal and physical custody of their child.
