Guillermo del Toro Addresses Possibility of Directing in Cabinet of Curiosities Season 2

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is considered a near-perfect collection of terrifying tales but fans agree that it is missing one thing: none of the eight episodes of the anthology series was directed by del Toro himself. But could that change in the second season? The Pan's Labyrinth director has addressed the possibility of directing one of the new episodes of the Netflix show.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Guillermo del Toro addressed the possibility of directing an episode or two in Cabinet of Curiosities Season 2. Interestingly, the filmmaker pointed out that he wants to give other directors the honor of helming the new episodes. However, del Toro did point out that he wants to be more involved in the second season.

“I would like to write the opening and closing stories for the next season and leave the middle to others,” del Toro said. He then explained what Cabinet of Curiosities aims to do in the second season.

“What I do is I curate stories that have not been done that could land well with the director. For example, The Autopsy was a story revered among horror readers but was not well known and deemed unadaptable. So I said let’s adapt it,” he said.

Cabinet of Curiosities certainly did an excellent job with The Autopsy which was directed by David Prior and became the third episode of the first season. Although we would love to see an episode directed by del Toro in the future, it's already great that he is choosing the right stories to adapt in the series.

For now, Netflix has not yet renewed Cabinet of Curiosities for a second season. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

All eight episodes of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities are now streaming on Netflix.
