Episode 7 of Grotesquerie ended with a shocking twist that changed the trajectory of the series in the remaining episodes.

As it turns out, the hunt for the serial killer that we've been seeing in the first seven episodes was all in Lois' head, who was in a coma after all this time instead of her husband Marshall.

Sister Megan was also not an investigative journalist nun. She turned out to be the new Chief Detective who took over Lois' job. As for Father Charlie Mayhew, he is not a priest at all, but someone who was tasked to administer the drug to end Lois’ life.

Merritt is revealed to be a cancer researcher while Travis Kelce's character Eddie is her husband. However, Eddie had an affair with Lois sometime before she went into a coma.

The episode closed with Lois waking up while being taken off life support and realizing that her "investigation" was all a dream.

Ryan Murphy Explains Episode 7's Shocking Twist

In a post-mortem interview, Murphy explained what's next for the series following the shocking twist in the recent episode.

"Now she has to explain to all of these people why they were doing these horrible things to her in her dream," he said.

"What it really is about is a person waking up from a state that was a living nightmare, which all of us are living in. So she wakes up and what she’s trying to do is fight for herself and fight for her family and fight for survival."

The series creator continued, "And she realizes that the only thing that’s going to get her through this experience is love, and that’s what I feel. That’s my world view. It’s interesting in my work."

"If you look at my characters throughout the times, they do outrageous things, they say outrageous things, they wear outrageous things. But what they’re really all fighting for is either to love or to be loved. That’s what I’m trying to put out into the world."

It would be curious to see how it all plays out in the rest of the season now that we know the reality of Lois' investigation and how her dream changes her dynamic with the other characters.
