Gran Turismo Movie Adds Carnival Row Star Orlando Bloom

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are currently gearing up for the production of the film adaptation of the popular racing video game Gran Turismo which is set to release next year. Now, as they are racing their way to the starting point of filming, it looks like they have recruited another actor to its ensemble.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carnival Row star Orlando Bloom has joined the cast of the Gran Turismo movie. He will be playing a marketing executive who is "selling the sport of motor racing" and "may believe in its art too."

District 9 director Neil Blomkamp is helming the film. Jason Hall and Zach Baylin wrote the screenplay. The cast already includes David Harbour and rising star Archie Madekwe. Filming will begin next week in Europe.

The film's logline reads: "Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver."

In case you're not familiar with the source material, Gran Turismo is a series of racing simulation video games that launched in 1997 and has since then sold over 85 million units worldwide making it the highest-selling video game franchise under the PlayStation brand. It is being hailed as one of the best racing video games thanks to its graphic, the number of licensed vehicles that you can play, attention to detail, and accurate physics.

Bloom is a great addition to the cast. As we have known from his iconic roles in Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, and Carnival Row, he is a talented actor and it's interesting to see how his character will play into the story of the film as well as the other actors that they are recruiting as they're getting closer to its production date.
