  • Quick Answer: Good Omens Season 3 premieres May 13, 2026, on Prime Video as a 90-minute series finale movie resolving the cliffhanger between Crowley and Aziraphale.

After a long wait, Good Omens Season 3 is finally set to arrive on Prime Video, bringing the journey of angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) to a close. However, instead of the usual six-episode format seen in previous seasons, the final installment will consist of a single 90-minute episode.

Following the release of Season 2 in July 2023, a third and final season was announced in December of the same year, but not without major changes. Neil Gaiman, who co-created the series based on the 1990 novel he wrote with Terry Pratchett, stepped away from the show after multiple sexual assault allegations were made against him.

So what exactly happened that led to Good Omens Season 3 being reduced to just one episode? Here’s everything you need to know.

Good Omens

As the creator and writer of the novel on which the series is based, Neil Gaiman was heavily involved in the production of Good Omens. However, everything changed when he stepped away from the project in October 2024.

Good Omens Season 3 was originally planned to have six episodes, similar to its predecessors. But following Gaiman’s departure, along with delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes that affected the writing process, the season was ultimately reduced to a single, extended episode.

Multiple women accused the author of sexual assault and abuse, resulting in several of his projects being paused or canceled, including Disney’s planned adaptation of The Graveyard Book.

Production of Good Omens Season 3 was also temporarily suspended until Amazon held internal discussions following Gaiman's stepping down.

The studio eventually chose to move forward with the series finale, though in a revised format: one longer episode instead of six.

Gaiman will still receive writing credit, but he will no longer serve as showrunner or executive producer.

While the exact reason for abandoning the original six-episode plan was never officially disclosed, it may be linked to how closely the storyline was tied to Gaiman’s earlier involvement before his exit.

Good Omens

Good Omens Season 2 ended on a major and surprising cliffhanger. Crowley confessed his feelings to Aziraphale and shared a kiss.

However, as Aziraphale had just been promoted in Heaven, he tried to persuade Crowley to join him and be transformed into an angel.

Crowley refused, preferring a freer life with Aziraphale, who also chose not to stay on Earth.

As the two went their separate ways, Crowley driving off and Aziraphale returning to Heaven, Season 3 may explore their journeys, albeit separately. The show may end their stories individually, though it may also offer closure to their relationship.

The threat of Armageddon and other celestial events looms after Aziraphale’s return and Gabriel’s (Jon Hamm) departure, while Metaron (Derek Jacobi) seems to have dark intentions.

With these high-stakes developments, fans can expect even more dramatic and celestial-level consequences when Good Omens Season 3 premieres on May 13, 2026, on Prime Video.
