Product placements don't come as a surprise to many filmgoers. If you're a fan of K-Drama, you may be familiar with the ever-present Kopiko candy popping up in some shows. In Godzilla x Kong, Volkswagen makes a less than subtle appearance in the 2024 film.

Godzilla x Kong Volkswagen Ad
Ever since marketers discovered the success of product placements in films, it has been used as a strategy to get viewers to buy the product more. But unlike the Godzilla x Kong Volkswagen ad, previous product placements were inconspicuous.
In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Volkswagen doesn't hide its product placement in the film.
The tearjerking moment between Ilene Andrews (played by Rebecca Hall) and Jia (played by Kyalee Hottle) gets cut short by the random appearance of Volkswagen's new ID.4 vehicle.
A member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, Imelda Labbé, said:
"At first glance one might wonder what the link is between an edge-of-your-seat, adrenaline-filled Monsterverse movie of such epic proportions, and the innovative, intuitive safe haven that is the ID.4. But it’s all about feelings, and emotive storytelling. As well as all the fast-paced monster action, the film has plenty of playful and heartwarming moments that really speak to us at Volkswagen. We collaborated closely with our Volkswagen Japan team on production to take the all-electric ID.4 closer to a broad group of customers in Japan and fire their enthusiasm for sustainable mobility.”
In addition to the product placement in the film, Volkswagen has three clips connected to the film. You can check out these clips here:
