Why Did Gibbs Delay His Wife and Daughter's Funeral in NCIS: Origins?
NCIS: Origins shows the NIS Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs before he transformed into the stoic legendary version in the flagship series.
The prequel show promised to tell the heartbreaking story right after the events of losing his wife, Shannon, and daughter Kelly in a tragic accident.
However, what remains a chilling mystery is why Gibbs decided to delay the funeral of his wife and daughter in NCIS: Origins.
Considering that it hasn't been that long since he joined the Naval Investigative Service, he still found it difficult to come out of his shell.
In this case, he admitted he was still hesitant about 'moving on' from the loss and kept Shannon and Kelly's belongings right where they were in the house.
NCIS: Origins episode 3 titled Bend, Don't Break highlights one of the most crucial steps Gibbs had to take before he could develop into an entirely new person, the man he needs to be.
NCIS: Origins Shows Jackson Gibbs Against Leroy's Vendetta
As much as Gibbs wanted to carry out his revenge plan against the man who killed his family, his father, Robert Taylor Jackson Gibbs, is against his wishes.
Following the death of Shannon and Kelly and hearing his son's plans to join the NIS, Jackson tries in his own power to prevent Leroy from joining the NIS, claiming that his son is "not fit to be a Navy cop."
Jackson confronts his own son about his plan and points out that he knows he only has one reason to become an agent: hunt down the killer, which is not a path of peace at all.
Instead of hearing his father out, he pushes him away by insisting he is committed to the job. Jackson took this literally and went home, seeing as he couldn't stop his son from making his final decision.
