The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito recently opened up about the future of the Star Wars franchise amid the recent changes.

After its three-season run in the Disney+ series, Din Djarin and Grogu are jumping to the big screen for their next adventure with the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Fans have been wondering whether this is a sign that the Star Wars franchise is moving towards a new direction by balancing both film and TV projects similar to what the MCU has been doing in the past few years.

Esposito recently weighed in on the future of the Star Wars franchise as The Mandalorian is moving forward to the big screen for its next installment.

He predicted that the franchise would likely go in an MCU-type direction under the "new vision" of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.

"As in the MCU… Disney will figure out how to join all of these characters into one really great movie or TV show. That’s my sense of where it will go," the actor said.

"Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a Mandalorian movie... My sense is that it’s all going to converge at one point or another and we’re going to have another set of… [a] trilogy, or more, of films."

This is what most fans have also predicted about the future of the franchise now that it is reviving the theatrical component again while still focusing on TV projects with lesser outputs than usual.

After all, Disney and Lucasfilm want to keep the franchise consistent given its popularity and mass appeal for decades, and balancing both film and TV might be the right path for its continuing success.

It also helps that The Mandalorian was such a massive series on Disney+ and it would likely benefit the upcoming theatrical film when it releases in 2026. It is interesting to see what kind of reception it will receive and whether its potential success sets up a new chapter for the franchise.
