Game of Thrones Penultimate Episode Receives Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score In Show’s History

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

It looks like critics and viewers weren't too happy with the latest episode of Game of Thrones. The penultimate episode drew a lot of strong reactions from viewers and it looks like that the response has translated on Rotten Tomatoes, giving the episode the worst score in the fantasy epic's eight-season history.

Fans weren't happy with D.B. Weiss and David Benioff's decision to have Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) obliterate King's Landing with her forces even after the people's decision to surrender. Many felt that Daenery's descent into madness was totally unjustified and underdeveloped in the latest season of the series. Now, it looks like The Bells has gotten the worst Rotten Tomatoes score in Game of Thrones history.

Gathering around 52 reviews, the penultimate episode has an average rating of about 6/10 with the critical consensus declaring the character arc unearned and muddled.

"Death, destruction, and the deterioration of Daenerys' sanity make "The Bells" an episode for the ages; but too much plot in too little time muddles the plot and may leave some viewers feeling its conclusions are a little unearned," the consensus reads.

Right now, Danny's narrative arc seems pretty bleak. The Mother of Dragons has turned into the villain of the series after being forced into the role by season 8's writing. Given the trajectory of things, we can only expect Danny to be killed by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) or by Arya (Maisie Williams).

Game of Thrones season 8 airs every Sunday at 9 PM ET on HBO.
