Game of Thrones fans may have had to wait for more than a year for Game of Thrones to return with its eighth and final season on HBO, but it looks like they won't regret waiting.
Participating in a new Ask Me Anything Thread on Reddit,Game of Thrones director David Nutter confirmed something that fans have been hoping for ever since the end of the seventh season – longer and more epic episodes for season 8 of the fantasy series. According to Nutter, each episode of Game of Thrones will be much longer than 60 minutes, making up for the number of episodes given the new season.
"Season 8 episodes will all I think to be longer than 60 minutes. They'll be dancing around the bigger numbers, I know that for sure," Nutter told fans on Reddit.
There was a whole lot of talk about the final Game of Thrones episodes being lengthened than the usual with HBO's decision to shorten the number of episodes of the series, especially since the network gave the show a significant budget increase for its final season.
But that's not all. Nutter also spoke about the series' final season, and the episode director didn't hold back in praising Game of Thrones' showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
"I'm completely satisfied with how season 8 ends," Nutter wrote. "I think that [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned. I guarantee there's going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it's really very compelling stuff."
Of course, it's go big or go home at this point in the series. Game of Thrones has been one of the most successful shows on television today, and many are expecting the series to end with a band. It isn't too much to ask, especially if you're expecting an epic showdown between the living and the dead.
Game of Thrones returns for its eighth and final season sometime in April 2019 on HBO.
