Game Of Thrones: Conleth Hill Confirms Varys Plotted To Kill Daenerys Targaryen

It has been several months yet fans are still not quite over Game of Thrones Season 8. Luckily, the series had a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 where most questions were answered. For instance, did Varys really plot to kill Daenerys Targaryen? Conleth Hill explained what the Spider was thinking in the final season.

Hill finally confirmed that Varys was, in fact, plotting against the Mother of Dragons in Game of Thrones Season 8 and that he somehow accepted his fate if he failed.

"Yeah...The coin, when a Targaryen is born, is going to be one side or the other," Hill told the audience at SDCC (via Comicbook.com). "And [Dany's] has come down a bit cray cray towards the end. I think Varys knew long ago he was going to die, and what the sorcerer might've said to him, might've been what [Dany] says when he's burnt to death."

Interestingly, Hill stated that there was no other way for Varys to deal with the situation since he couldn't convince Jon Snow or Tyrion Lannister to turn against Dany.

"I think all this has an inevitability; he knew he couldn't get through to Jon Snow, or Tyrion because they were both in love with Daenerys," Hill said. "That blinds people's judgements. So he knew he had to try anyway to stop her, and that it was very possible he'd be killed. I thought it was a cool death, very dignified... there are ways to get fired and that was one of the best."

Well, personally, I wouldn't want to be "dracarys-ed" when I lose my job, but you do you, Varys.

The Game of Thrones prequel is currently in production.
