As she has just secured another box office hit, thanks to Rebirth’s $318.3 million earnings at the worldwide box office over the holiday weekend, Johansson has made another unprecedented Hollywood breakthrough.

Johansson has just set another record following the success of Rebirth, topping The Numbers’ list of the Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Worldwide Box Office.
This means the 40-year-old is now the highest-grossing actor of all time at the global box office, followed by fellow MCU stars Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr.
The actress has her Marvel movies to thank, with films like Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and The Avengers, among others, being major contributors to this new feat.
Of course, Rebirth has also played a role in helping her earn this title, alongside other hits like the animated feature Sing, the fantasy adventure The Jungle Book, and the thriller Lucy.
As a “Lead Ensemble Member Actress,” based on her credited roles in 18 films, she has ranked number one by grossing a worldwide aggregate box office total of $12,998,975,976.
What’s Next for Scarlett Johansson?
So far, Universal Pictures has yet to officially announce whether there will be a sequel to Rebirth. But with its box office success—despite mixed reviews and the fact that director Gareth Edwards has never directed a sequel to his films—it’s not far that follow-up or new installment might be in the works.
If that happens, there’s a strong chance Johansson may return.
If not, the Fly Me to the Moon star has three upcoming movies under her belt. She will appear as Carol Blevins in Featherwood, playing a former addict who goes undercover to help the FBI dismantle a crime syndicate.
She’s also set to appear in The Gauntlet and Paper Tiger, though her roles in those projects have yet to be revealed.
As for Marvel fans, it seems unlikely they’ll see Johansson return as Black Widow anytime soon.
While there are rumors that Chris Evans may reprise his role as Captain America in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, where Downey Jr. is confirmed to appear as Victor Von Doom, Johansson seems reluctant to return to the MCU.
What she wants instead is to work behind the camera and direct a Marvel Studios film if given the chance.
In fact, reports suggest she may produce a Marvel Studios project and could potentially be involved in the rumored Blonde Phantom movie.
