When Walt Disney announced its plan to acquire 21st Century Fox and its film and television assets, fans wondered how the Mickey Mouse House would handle the studio's popular R-rated franchises like Deadpool, Predator, and Alien once the deal pushed through.
There was a whole lot of concern that Disney either force these franchises to conform to its family-friendly brand or that it would disregard Predator and Alien all together. However, fans of both franchises have nothing to be concerned about. The Walt Disney Company just held its Annual Shareholder's Meeting this week, and during the gathering, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed (via ComicBook.com) that Fox would continue operating under the banner of Disney.
For those who aren't quite sure what this means, Disney is letting Fox become another content creator for the company, allowing it to join other major studios like Pixar, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm.
According to Iger, 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, FX, and all of other Fox's properties are going to continue operating under their own names.
FX's more adult-themed content will stay on with Hulu. Meanwhile, Disney will probably give the studio's family-friendly offerings a chance of making its way to Disney+, the Mickey Mouse House's upcoming streaming service.
However, while Fox will keep some of its franchises in the acquisition, the studio will be losing its mutant license to Marvel. Iger has long since confirmed that the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of Fox's other mutants would be making their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe once the deal would be finalized.
