The Star Wars Universe has had its fair share of controversies over the years — from the divisive sequel trilogy to Gina Carano's unceremonious ousting from the franchise but one that didn't sit well with the majority of fans is the massive change made to Boba Fett's iconic ship. In case you weren't aware, news came out last June that Disney and Lucasfilm officially dropped the "Slave I" name and rebranded Boba's ship, much to the chagrin of fans.
Now, it looks like the powers that be are staying firm with their decision, and the "Slave I" moniker may very well be a thing of the past. Last Christmas, the hit battle royale video game Fortnite unveiled its new Boba Fett skin ahead of The Book of Boba Fett's release. But instead of being thrilled about it, Star Wars fans noticed that the game also refers to Slave I as "Boba Fett's Starship". Something that didn't sit well with a lot of folks. Despite the fact that the name change from "Slave I" to just "Boba Fett's Starship" has been irksome for longtime fans of the character, Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to address the matter. The real reason behind the change wasn't even disclosed, to begin with, but a lot of people are under the impression that the term "slave" isn't exactly child-friendly. Now, it'll be interesting to see if Boba's latest Star Wars series will also drop the Slave I moniker.
Meanwhile, The Book of Boba Fett's first episode is now available for streaming exclusively on Disney+.
