Five Nights at Freddy's became one of the major theatrical hits of 2023 as it ended up becoming the highest-grossing Blumhouse film and received massive commercial success as it earned almost $300 million at the worldwide box office.

What made it more impressive is that the film was released in both theaters and Peacock on the same day. Despite its availability on streaming, millions of audiences and fans of the video game still went out to watch it in theaters.

It is inevitable at this point that the film will get a sequel in the near future although we haven't heard any update yet regarding its potential follow-up months after its release.

Now, we have an update from one of the producers of the film.

In an interview with Collider, Five Nights at Freddy's executive producer Ryan Turek was asked whether the film will get a sequel in the aftermath of its huge box office success.

He revealed that a potential follow-up has not been given a green light as they are still figuring out what the next movie will be.

"That movie made so much money. It was a huge success, and we're grateful for that. Emma [Tammi, the director,] did such a great job, but we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We'll see," he said.

Turek also added by explaining that its lack of green light at the moment is not out of the norm, "No, it's not crazy. It's just part of the process, I think."

It is surprising that a sequel has not been given a green light at this point and you would assume that conversations have already been made since it's been months now since the first film's release.

Perhaps they are still figuring out what's next and when they are going to release it since they also want to ride on the momentum of the first film's success.

They will likely make some announcements in the next few months regarding the sequel, but fans can certainly look forward to it at this point considering the surprise mega success of the first film last Halloween season.

Five Nights at Freddy's is available to stream on Peacock.
