  • Quick Answer: Season 3 will follow The Ghoul's search for his family in Colorado. Production starts in May 2026, with a premiere expected in early 2027.

Fallout Season 2 ended with several major reveals, but one of the biggest was the tease surrounding the fate of The Ghoul’s (Walton Goggins) family.

The Ghoul sets his sights on Colorado after discovering a postcard with a handwritten note suggesting the state “was a good idea,” found inside the cryo-pods of his wife, Barb (Frances Turner), and daughter, Janey (Teagan Meredith), inside a Vault-Tec management vault.

This gives The Ghoul hope that his family may have survived the apocalypse and remained alive for more than 200 years. With renewed purpose, he embarks on a new journey with his loyal dog by his side.

So what happened to Colorado, and is it featured in the Fallout games on which the series is based?

So far, there is only one Fallout game that features the state of Colorado: Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel

In this game, the titular Brotherhood goes up against a robot army, eventually ending up in the remote areas of the state while searching for Vault 0, where a supercomputer known as Calculator controls the robots.

This location was originally intended to be a major setting in the early version of Fallout 3 before it was eventually scrapped.

But aside from Brotherhood of Steel, most of Colorado’s lore comes from Fallout: New Vegas. In this game, the Legion has conquered much of the state, and various tribes emerge around Denver, building communities in the aftermath of the Great War.

One of the most prominent tribes was the Hangdogs, who developed a near-spiritual bond with hounds. However, under the command of Legion member Lanius, the Hangdogs and other tribes were forced to submit – either through death or conscription.

The Hangdogs resisted the longest, but the Legion eventually forced their surrender by targeting their dogs. Once absorbed into the Legion, many Hangdogs members became experts in training hounds for use in Roman-inspired military units.

Considering how heavily the Prime Video series has drawn from Fallout: New Vegas, there’s a strong chance that Fallout Season 3 will feature the Legion storyline as part of The Ghoul’s journey through Colorado.

Fans may also see the Hangdogs appear this time as part of the story. It’s worth noting that the Legion’s campaign in the state has already occurred in the show, albeit several decades earlier.

And if there’s one Fallout character capable of going head-to-head with the Legion, it’s The Ghoul. And if this storyline plays out, viewers will also be keen to see how Barb and Janey manage to survive the Legion’s advances in Colorado.

Whatever happens, fans are set to discover the next chapter when Fallout Season 3 arrives likely sometime in 2027 or early 2028.

Fallout Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Prime Video.
