Who would've known Fallout on Prime would steal fans' hearts in the first season? Ella Purnell recently shared the 'challenging' episode that convinced the Fallout cast that the show would be an inevitable hit.
Ella Purnell Recalls 'Intense' Filming For the Sake of 'Making Something Cool'
The live-action adaptation of the hit video game wouldn't have been brought to life on Prime if it weren't for the main cast committing to their roles. In this case, Ella Purnell, who played Lucy MacLean in Fallout, recently shared the difficult set days they had for season 1.
"It was so tough. It was 100 degrees," Purnell recalled, the episode where co-star Walton Goggins (Ghoul) had layers of prosthetics and had to fight the giant 15-foot mutated salamander, "They could not have put him in more clothes if they tried. It was challenging."
According to the Arcane actress, there was slime everywhere, the cast was "falling over" and "sweating." However, the wise words behind her makeup artist Mike Harvey somehow grounded them.
"'You know, it's the toughest shoots that make the best shows'," Harvey told Purnell at the time, which convinced her that they may be right on the money.
"Even though it was so tough and the crew [and cast] were struggling, and it was very tense, we all kind of knew," Purnell reminisced, "And we pushed through because we knew that we were making something really cool."
The filmed episode in question was the third episode titled The Head, where Lucy gets attacked by a Gulper, and Cooper Howard the Ghoul rescues her.
It also happened to be their first meeting, with Howard taking her in as part of the Wastelands' own 'golden rule.'
There is no doubt that Fallout's success led to a greenlit season 2 in no time. The Emmy-nominated show starts filming again in September to continue where Lucy and Ghoul left off from the ending of season 1.
