Yesterday, we learned that some violent scenes in the third episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were censored to make it more family-friendly which created a lot of confusion from fans as they are wondering why Disney+ suddenly made those edits a year after it was released. However, now, it looks like the change won't actually be permanent at all.
According to TVLine, the censored violent scenes in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were actually published accidentally as part of a version control issue. Disney+ is currently fixing the issue and is expected to restore it back to its original version soon. There is no date given yet about when we'll get to see its restoration.
It should be a relief for fans to hear that the edits were just a mistake. There were a lot of concerns when the changes were reported as it posed a question if the other scenes or the other MCU shows will also get the same treatment. It has also been criticized for being "unnecessary" and "too late." Now, it seems that it is no longer the case since it's all just a behind-the-scenes mistake on Disney+'s part.
However, Marvel and Disney+ haven't made an official statement themselves yet regarding the mistake although it is likely that it won't be addressed since they are already doing the solution at the moment. It is also likely that such edits won't be made in the other episodes of the show or the other MCU shows in the service.
For now, it looks like there is no reason to be worried about any edits or censorship in the future and we should be at least relieved that the change was all just a simple mistake. Hopefully, this won't happen again in the future, especially with so many great MCU shows that are slated to premiere soon.
All episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are streaming on Disney+.
