The highly anticipated sequel to the late '90s classic is set to arrive in theaters, with original stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock returning to reprise their roles. In a recent post on her Instagram story (via EW), Evan Rachel Wood gave a special shoutout to Practical Magic 2 star Joey King for reaching out to her.

However, she seemingly shaded the original stars, as she also revealed that they did not reach out to her when her role was recast.

"I really appreciated Joey King reaching out to me because no one who worked on the original film did. She’s a sweetheart," the actress wrote.

Earlier this week, during the Los Angeles red carpet premiere of the sequel, Joey King shared with The Hollywood Reporter the conversation that she had with Wood about taking over the character she played in the original.

"I just was so appreciative of the support that she showed to me and to the rest of the cast. She is so talented and so beautiful, and she made this role so special when she was a young girl," she said.

"I feel so grateful to be able to play Kylie at this age, but I love Evan so much, and I’m so appreciative of her kind words and the exchange that her and I shared."

Meanwhile, director Susanne Bier explained that Wood's character had to be recast since the sequel will feature her in post-college years.

"It was not a personal thing. The kids in the story are right out of college, so it wasn’t really a question. We had to recast," she said.
