Evan Rachel Wood has set the record straight on whether she will be returning in Practical Magic 2.

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are reprising their iconic roles in the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 cult classic, which is already set to arrive in theaters next year. Fans have been wondering whether Wood will also return to reprise her role.

Is Evan Rachel Wood Reprising Her Role in Practical Magic 2?

In her post on Instagram story, Wood confirmed that she will not be reprising her role in Practical Magic 2.

While she expressed her interest in returning in the sequel, she was not offered to return, and her role is being recast with a different actress.

"I am getting asked about this a lot, so l'll just clear it up now. I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line," Wood wrote.

"I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters."

As most fans know, Wood played the role of Kylie Owens, Sally's elder daughter, in the original 1998 film. It is unknown yet which actress has been tapped to take over.

There is also no explanation yet from the people involved in the sequel regarding why Wood was not brought back.

What to Expect in Practical Magic 2

As already mentioned, Kidman and Bullock are reprising their roles from the original film. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are also confirmed to return.

The new cast members who are joining the sequel are Joey King, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod, and Maisie Williams. The details regarding their characters are still unknown.

The plot details for the sequel are also under wraps at the moment, but it is expected to be based on Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel The Book of Magic, which is the fourth installment in the Practical Magic book series.

"We're going to be very faithful. We're cognizant to how important those characters and that movie are to so many people," producer Denise Di Novi teased.

"We're not going to reinvent the wheel. We're going to draw from Alice Hoffman's books, as the first movie did, and we're going to be true to the chronology of how many years later it is."

Production is currently underway. It is scheduled for release in theaters on September 18, 2026.
