While there were a lot of moments in Game of Thrones 8 that built up to Daenerys being the ‘Mad Queen,' it was her speech after the destruction of the Red Keep that seemed to show that the character had fully lost it. As it turns out, Emilia Clarke was said to be channeling one of the most infamous orators of all time—Adolf Hitler.
Talking to Pinkvilla, Clarke explained:
"You absolutely can understand what Hitler's f*****g saying, these single-focus orators speaking a foreign language. So I thought, 'If I can believe every single word I'm saying, the audience won't need to be looking at the subtitles too much.'"
Apparently, Clarke didn't need any rehearsal for the scene, and she was said to have shot everything perfectly on the first go. With Clarke clearly not a fan of how her character was written in the final season, I guess she was also channeling her dissatisfaction and anger when it came to the speech.
Though Clarke feared that the final season of Game of Thrones would leave a lasting impression of her character to the audience, a lot of fans would beg to differ. If anything, they felt that Daenerys' turn was too rushed, and a lot still stand beside the liberator of Meereen, the Breaker of Chains.
For now, HBO is planning a spinoff prequel series for Game of Thrones, but it's likely we'll have to wait a long while before we see it back onscreen. Hopefully, they manage to end that show better than what we got with Game of Thrones 8.
