WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen is often endeared to fans because of her straightforward attitude off-camera, and she has no qualms about knowing anything about the process that they have on Marvel Studios—even one time publicly admitting he had no idea John Krasinski would be in Multiverse of Madness.
It’s been said that Thor’s brother Balder the Brave was supposed to be in the film before they decided to bring in Mr. Fantastic, and Olsen confirms that he was going to be played by an A-list actor.
Daniel Craig Almost Appeared in Multiverse of Madness
Talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Olsen confirms that Knives Out and James Bond star Daniel Craig was supposed to be in the Doctor Strange sequel. When asked about Craig being in the movie, Olsen replied, “Yes. That’s what I thought was going to happen… I saw the art… they made a costume… they had a design.”
Olsen asked what Craig said about the part, to which host Josh Horowitz confirmed that Craig denied everything, to which Olsen replied, “I should have done that. God, I’m so bad at this thing. I’m like an open book, it’s horrible.”
Elizabeth Olsen Never Met John Krasinski
Though the Scarlet Witch taking down the Illuminati was one of the highlights of Multiverse of Madness, Olsen has confirmed that she had never met some people she had shared that scene with.
In an interview with Vanity Fair back in 2022, Olsen was asked during a lie detector test on whether Krasinki looked like the “Smartest Man Alive” to which Olsen replied not knowing what the context of the question was.
“I’ve never met him. I’ve never met that man… I met his wife.”
Having Olsen confirm that it was supposed to be Daniel Craig in the film helps contextualize her story of not knowing that Krasinski was in the movie, and it also puts to light how Marvel tends to just change a lot of things on the fly despite having started out with a completely different vision.
HBO’s The Franchise
Funnily enough, these kinds of mix-ups are apparently common in the big superhero franchise industry, and HBO’s The Franchise is looking to tell some stories about blockbuster films that are based on the truth. Besides adding actors last-minute and demanding the impossible out of VFX artists, there was also a story where a director was said to have been working on scenes that the studio knew were going to be scrapped, while they were simultaneously shooting the material that would be used.
DC’s David Ayer has also been very open about his experience with Suicide Squad where he wanted to make a dark superhero movie, and the studio essentially changed the edit so his film became more of an action-comedy—and he was forced to own up to everything publicly, including the poor reviews.
Scarlet Witch in the Future
For now, Scarlet Witch’s status in the MCU is currently MIA, but a lot of fans are thinking that she’s going to show up in some major way in Agatha All Along. Wanda’s presence is already heavily hinted at in the show, and it’s only a matter of time before they make some kind of big reveal about her.
Agatha All Along is now streaming on Disney+.
