While the fate of the next Star Trek movie is still up in the air, it looks like Chris Pine has been cast in another long-gestating movie that's finally moving forward.
According to THR, Pine is currently in talks to star in Paramount's Dungeons & Dragons movie directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. There aren't any details that have been released for the film or Pine's role, but a rumor had come out that the story will be a meta-narrative that will also show audiences how D&D is played.
Looking at John Francis Daley though, you could say that his directing of the movie had been predicted a long time ago. Back when Daley was still playing Sam Weir in Freaks and Geeks, he plays a memorable Dungeons & Dragons session with James Franco's Daniel Desario:
Admittedly, Dungeons & Dragons have been getting some new attention in recent years. A lot of people had picked up interest in it thanks to some memorable TV like Community and Stranger Things; while there are also dedicated shows where you actually get to watch people play like Critical Role and Harmon Quest. I'm just crossing my fingers that this big-budget film is not only going to be a treat for fans of the game, but for people who also have no idea what D&D is.
For now, Dungeons & Dragons is set to come out on May 27, 2022, but it's possible the film could be delayed thanks to COVID-19. You can catch Pine in Wonder Woman 1984 though, when it comes out in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day December 25.
