Dora the Explorer Movie Gets a Story Description; Eva Longoria Playing Dora’s Mom

A lot of people were scratching heads when it was announced that Dora the Explorer was getting a live-action film; but the movie has already been cast, and filming is underway. Thanks to the Hollywood Reporter, we have an idea of what the plot is going to be like, and more, the film has cast Dora's mother.

THR describes the plot:

The movie will tell the story of Dora, a girl who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents but now must navigate her most dangerous adventure yet: high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego and a rag-tag group of teens on a Goonies-esque adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.

Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria has been cast as Dora's mother Elena. In the animated version, Dora's mother was an archeologist, an her father Cole was an office worker/baseball coach. I wouldn't be surprised if the movie took a few liberties though.

Isabela Moner has been cast as the teen Dora, but the film also has Madelyn Miranda playing the young version of the character. Dora's cousin Diego is also being played by a Micke Moreno, but what I'm curious about is how the movie will bring to life Dora's companion Boots.

Dora the Explorer is being directed by James Bobin (The Muppets) and is slated for a release on Aug. 2, 2019.
