One of the biggest questions that came from the release of Zootopia 2 is whether the main characters, especially Nick Wilde, die or survive the events of the film.

The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Disney animated movie was released in theaters to massive success. Not only did it receive universal praise from critics and audiences, but it also immediately became one of the biggest box office hits this year. In its first weekend alone, it already grossed more than $500 million worldwide. Fans are now hoping that a third installment will be made.

SPOILER WARNING: This article includes spoilers for Zootopia 2, so proceed with caution.

Did Nick Wilde Die in Zootopia 2?

Fortunately for fans, Nick Wilde survived the events of Zootopia 2 and did not face any demise by the end.

However, he had a near-death encounter during a climactic fight with Pawbert that took place on a cliff. He almost fell, but Judy arrived just in time to rescue him. Pawbert did fall from the cliff, but he somehow survived.

Considering that this is a Disney animated movie, it would have been shocking if Nick was killed off, and it's not surprising that he survived the events of the film, even if he almost faced his demise.

Not only that, none of the characters, even the antagonists, died in the film (excluding the characters from the flashback sequences that took place many years ago).

Audiences who watched the film ended up being satisfied and entertained when they left the theaters, due to the Nick and Judy moments, the world-building, and delivering a sequel that feels as relevant as the first film.

Is There a Zootopia 3 In the Works?

So far, Disney has no official plans yet to do a third Zootopia movie anytime soon, but given the second movie's successful box office opening, it won't be surprising if discussions are already underway within the studio.

In a recent interview with Polygon, co-director Byron Howard acknowledged that there are "endless" possibilities in expanding the franchise, including a potential third movie.

"It is endless, I think, because it is built around the fact that [just watching] the normal functioning of the world is entertainment itself," he said.

Co-director Jared Bush also added, "Honestly, I think our job is to have people walk out of a theater [and] go, like, ‘That was great! Man, I want more of that!’ I think that's the goal. And I think with this movie, we really tried hard to say, 'This is how you can expand [the Zootopia world]’ that allows people to say, 'And you could expand it even more!' I think that's the goal every single time we go into this world."
