What Happened to [SPOILERS] in The Boys Season 5?

The latest episode of The Boys season 5 sees Frenchie make the ultimate sacrifice to keep Homelander from discovering Kimiko and Sage. Frenchie is forced to watch the woman he loves risk her life once more to save the world. This time, after seemingly gaining Soldier Boy's powers, Kimiko becomes the secret weapon who could depower the V1-infused leader of The Seven.
In a heartwrenching sequence, Homelander manages to breach their hideout. Once Frenchie realized that the weapon (and the people capable of using it) must be protected at all costs, Frenchie locked himself inside the radiation chamber. Frenchie knew what he had to do to mask Kimiko and Sage's thermal signatures and let them escape. He overrides the reactor and floods the room with a lethal dose of U^{235} particles.
By the time Homelander tears the door off its hinges, Frenchie has already sustained a fatal dose of radiation. His final moments had not been to plead for his life and mercy, but to spit in the face of the "King of Supes," distracting him just long enough for Kimiko to slip away with the depowering element that could help them put an end to Homelander once and for all.
With that, Frenchie dies in a blood-soaked farewell, leaving Kimiko to grieve and carry the burden of the war alone...
Why His Sacrifice Had to Happen, According to Showrunner

"We knew we had to kill off one of The Boys," showrunner Eric Kripke previously told The Hollywood Reporter, referencing how the likes of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones were able to keep the momentum in their infamous death scenes, "You can't have a shot at victory unless it costs your heroes something that's really hard. For narrative momentum, your heroes have to pay a steep price — because that's how it works in the real world."
When it came to deciding who would be the black sheep to take the bullet, Kripke had one thing to say: "I think we knew early on it was going to be Frenchie. In so many ways, Frenchie and Kimiko are the heart of the show. Despite what killers they are, they're both so emotionally sweet."
Kripke continued, "We knew this would have real maximum destruction, and I think it had to happen. They would not have a chance of winning if Frenchie didn't sacrifice himself."
Frenchie's death marks a point of no return for the series. By removing the team's technical genius and most beloved, emotional character, the show stripped the Boys of their safety net, fueling the team's determination and plot for revenge against the biggest villain behind it all. As Frenchie leaves the picture, the mission remains: finishing what Frenchie started.
The Boys season 5 is down to one last episode, and it premieres May 20 on Prime Video, with a special theatrical screening slated on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 9:30 PM in select cinemas such as Regal, AMC, Cineplex, etc. Stay tuned!
