Did Marvel Just Kill a Major Guardians of the Galaxy Character?

In comic books, death is inevitable. This is usually done to ramp up the drama and add some stakes to the storyline, though fans have grown a bit numb to this due to the fact that Marvel and DC tend to revive who have fallen anyway. Loki was supposedly killed in War of the Realms but the character is getting an ongoing series in July.

Despite that bit of cynicism, it was still rather shocking to see Donny Cates seemingly kill an important character in Guardians of the Galaxy #4. Most of us didn't expect characters to start falling this soon but it looks like Cates wants everyone to feel how important this arc is going to be, especially with this major death.

SPOILERS FOR GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #4

To the shock of many, Star-Lord was seemingly killed at the end of this issue. Yeah, the face of the MCU Guardians was killed by Nebula, as he landed in Gamora's arms. It's a shocking fate and if he stays dead for a long time, this is going to be fairly shocking. Newsarama notes that Star-Lord still appears in future covers and it's mentioned that the cast goes to Hel so that they can stop Thanos from coming back. Maybe they bring back Star-Lord as well?

And Rocket is dying in July. It's not a good time to be a Guardian of the Galaxy.
