Game of Thrones has had several celebrity cameos in the series, and last season had an appearance from Ed Sheeran playing a Lannister soldier. Though he didn't appear in the first episode of Season 8, it seems like we may have gotten an idea to what happened to his character—but it isn't pretty.
Remember that scene where Bronn is having a go with three ladies, and one of them is talking about a Lannister soldier who got his face burned off? It's possible that this was a nod to Sheeran's character. Besides being a Lannister soldier, Bronn calls the character a ginger and his name? Eddie.
Oh, Ed

Of course, we have no idea if this was a purposeful nod to Sheeran, but a lot of the descriptions are too specific to think that it wasn't deliberate. If anything, it's actually impressive that the show would have such a neat little easter egg with just the first episode. Just imagine what else they could be hiding with the remaining five episodes.
For now, it looks like the show is gearing up for the White Walkers' arrival in Winterfell. While some may think that it would be the climax of the whole series, I would prefer it to be a clash with Cersei who has more emotional stakes in this final season. I mean, the Night King is creepy, but I'm sure a lot of people don't feel like they could get behind him at all. Then again, I would be happy if the show gave us even just a little explanation to why he does what he does.
Catch the next episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 on HBO this coming April 21.
