Detective Pikachu will Feature 'Photo -Realistic' Pokemon Akin to GOTG’s Rocket Raccoon

Just recently we got the official reveal of Detective Pikachu's logo, but we still have no idea what the movie's approach to live-action Pokemon will be. According to director Rob Letterman, we should expect some real-looking pocket monsters.

Talking to IGN, Letterman explains:

"They're incredibly real, you should think of it as the way [Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy character] Rocket Raccoon sits in the movie as if he's really there. It's that technology. The same group of people that worked on that, or worked on Jungle Book. We've got the people on it that worked on Fantastic Beasts. They're technically, some of the most high-end visual effects in the world… It's completely photorealistic, like they are alive and in the movie."

Since the Pokemon anime started in the 90s, we've been getting a steady stream of animated movies and the continuing adventures of Ash Ketchum. Detective Pikachu will be the first time we get to see Pokemon in a live-action medium, and the pressure is on for the movie to deliver a look that fans will be comfortable with.

With Detective Pikachu set to come out May of next year, we could be looking at a first teaser to be dropped before 2018 ends.

Catch Detective Pikachu in theaters May 10, 2019.
