Of the number of cameos featured in Deadpool and Wolverine, the iconic X-Men Psylocke was among the most noticeable. But why does she look different than the version Olivia Munn played in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse? Here's why they changed the beloved mutant's look for the MCU.

Psylocke, who was originally portrayed by Olivia Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse, played a small role as one of Cassandra's henchmen in the Void.

As a variant, it's only natural to enter the franchise with a different actor. In this case, Psylocke in the Deadpool threequel was played by none other than Ayesha Hussain (The Acolyte, Silo).

While not many fans managed to catch a glimpse of her in action, costume illustrator Jonay Bacallado recently shared a better look at her and the final concept for her costume on Instagram. Check it out below:

Instead of having the daring all-purple look in X-Men: Apocalypse, Bacallado said that they gave Psylocke a "more utilitarian and tactical vibe to the design" while still sporting "her iconic color palette".

He described it as a "nod to her comic book portrayal" to keep the story behind her character present even in the background.

Considering how far revealing Psylocke's costume looked in Apocalypse, the reconstructed costume design for the Deadpool threequel resembled more of what one of Cassandra's henchmen in the Void would look like.

It remains to be seen if Psylocke will be far more than a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine, given that Ayesha's role went uncredited on the character list despite her MCU debut.

However, being a part of Cassandra's henchmen in the Void meant that Psylocke may have been once again transformed into one of the X-Men villains rather than the hero comic book fans have known her to be.

Here's to hoping Psylocke somehow makes an official MCU debut without being brushed off as a brief X-Men easter egg.
