Deadpool & Wolverine's Emma Corrin expected that their massive role in the MCU as Cassandra Nova would involve actual 'physical transformation' and training. However, Marvel executives had other plans in mind.
Deadpool & Wolverine's Cassandra Nova Actor Was Preparing For A Much More Ruthless Battle
Charles Xavier's evil twin, Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin), rules The Void from the TVA and she's not letting two unlikely mutants destroy her chance at conquering the Multiverse. Who knew she didn't have to literally lift a finger to gain the upper hand against the ketchup and mustard duo?
Usually, comic book heroes would require more strength in executing stunts for the big screens, but as it turns out, Corrin's case is different.
"This is funny because I did ask if I could have a personal trainer and they said no," The Crown actor previously explained on British GQ that it's 'absolutely not required' to undergo any physical training for their role, "I was so ready for it but they were like, 'Please stand down.' I tried."
Considering that Cassandra wields telekinetic powers and abilities, the actor essentially had to maintain a cunning yet charming presence that would pin the fearsome villain unstoppable.
According to Corrin, co-star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy encouraged the actor to hone a new persona for the threequel's main villain, especially since their revenge is all about taking mutants under her wing.
The Cassandra actor is "totally on board" with Reynolds and Levy's pitch that they "want this villain to not be a villain" in the most expected way. In short, deceive the audience into believing Cassandra is no one-trick pony.
In that sense, Corrin found inspiration behind Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka and Christoph Waltz's Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds.
"Something in [Cassandra's] nimbleness and slightness in the comics made me think about what fun you could have portraying someone with such immense power, but making them feel quite nimble," the Primetime Emmy nominee detailed.
Corrin later added that the finalization of Cassandra Nova's live-action adaptation took a number of trials and errors, but eventually, "We actually stayed very faithful to the comics, which I think was the right thing to do."
