Deadpool & Wolverine had so much great variants of Logan from his Age of Apocalypse look to his brown costume, but there were some versions that were left on the cutting room floor.

Either way, concept art has been slowly trickling out online, and it’s been revealed that Weapon X Logan could have made an appearance.

Weapon X Logan Scrapped From Deadpool & Wolverine

As shared by Phil Saunders on IG, there was a Logan variant that would have been inspired by Wolverine’s Weapon X look, complete with helmet and cable box belt. Check this out:

No reason has been revealed why they decided to scrap this look for the movie, but it was likely that they already had too many different kinds of Logans appear in the movie. Plus, a version of this costume had already appeared in a previous film—albeit it’s not as comic-accurate.

Weapon X in Previous Movies

The Weapon X program has been haunting Wolverine throughout the course of the movies, from his involvement with Stryker in X2 to his getting the adamantium bonded to his skeleton in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

But it was only in X-Men: Apocalypse where they actually tried to give him a look that was inspired by the Weapon Xappearance. Admittedly, they wanted audiences to be sure it was Hugh Jackman under the helmet, so they made sure that his face was visible the whole time.

With the concept art for Deadpool and Wolverine, his eyes are actually covered, and there’s even a subtle ‘X’ on the mask to really drive the Weapon X look home. Besides that, the movie version had Weapon X in loose tattered boxers, whereas the comic version kind of implied that Logan was nude the whole time. The concept art here makes a compromise and gives Weapon X some skintight trunks.

Wolverine’s Future with Marvel

Though fans were sure for a couple of years that Marvel was going to reboot the X-Men, it does look like they would want to keep Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine around for even just a couple of years.

Admittedly, it doesn’t seem like anyone is expecting any more solo Wolverine outings, but based on how Deadpool and Wolverine ended, the two could just be appearing together moving forward for a couple more movies.

At this point, everyone is guessing that Avengers: Secret Wars could be Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine (again), and fingers are crossed he meets up with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man so they could really bring together the franchises that are responsible for the superhero boom of the early 2000s.

After that, the character is expected to be rebooted. While Dafne Keen could be a great replacement for Jackman moving forward, it could be better for Marvel to really just make a ground-up reboot of the X-Men, complete with a new actor to play Logan for the next decade.

Heck, maybe they can even skip him for the first X-Men movie so they can just focus on the team for a bit. They can probably have him come as a member in the second solo entry.

Wolverine’s next appearance in the MCU has not been officially announced.
