Many fans were fairly surprised when Fox decided to push back Dark Phoenix and New Mutants for a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2. The R-rated original already made a ton of money and was lauded by critics for improving on almost everything that the first movie did wrong. Fans were soon enticed when it was revealed that the PG-13 version of the film would have new scenes but many of us were still wondering why this cut is being made.
Speaking with CinemaBlend, Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said that they were making a PG-13 version of the movie so that a generation of teens don't miss a version of the character they all know and love. Unsurprisingly, Deadpool is a pretty popular character with younger audiences, even though he's a mercenary for hire who kills people.
The reason they give is decent at best and most cynics would argue that they're doing it for some extra cash but teenagers won't mind this. Now that this version of the movie is coming, younger fans will no longer have to sneak into theaters to get a taste of the action. Hopefully, Deadpool 2 will still be a good movie with all of its dirty parts edited out.
For those wondering how the movie will differ from the original version, this will now have Deadpool reading the movie to an older Fred Savage in a parody of The Princess Bride. If they somehow get Big Show in the film to pay tribute to Andre the Giant, I will watch this movie twice.
Deadpool 2, the PG-13 version, is coming to theaters on December 21. The R-rated Blu-Ray is available now for purchase.
