With the new Man of Steel gracing the big screens this week, David Corenswet is championing a "bright and optimistic" Superman for the DC Universe, marking a deliberate shift from Henry Cavill's portrayal in the Snyderverse. Here's what David had to say.

What Did David Corenswet Say About Henry Cavill's Superman in Snyderverse?

Clark Kent's story of becoming the Man of Steel is hardly a new tale to tell fans, old and new. So, it's only natural that fans are seeking out newer and possibly more modern adaptations of the hero. David shares the same sentiment.

"I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]," the Pearl star's comments at Entertainment Weekly recently resurfaced, "I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic."

While Corenswet faced backlash from Snyderverse fans, a recent interview with GQ magazine cleared the air regarding his actual thoughts about the new take on Clark Kent: "I think that's the least interesting thing I could have said."

"The one way [superheroes] become boring is if you just keep doing the same thing over and over again," Corenswet continued.

He added that just as Snyder and Cavill explored a different side of Superman, his version with Gunn is ideally doing the same thing: "So, all I was saying was they're doing it so well."

To clarify, Corenswet previously told Heart that he reached out to Cavill for tips after landing his major superhero role, but noted that the former Man of Steel had no advice to share.

What Made David Corenswet Take on the New Man of Steel?

Well, apart from his surprising stance on why there's a need for a newer Superman version, he detailed his thought process upon landing the role of a lifetime.

"A role like Superman seems like something that everybody would want, and that's not true," Corenswet previously revealed in the same cover story, saying that while he is not one of those people, "I certainly tried to think of reasons not to [take it]. Ultimately, whether I get to play [Clark] once or 10 times, would I still say yes? And the answer was yes."

James Gunn, on the other hand, is not at all worried whether Superman earns accolades or sinks under Snyder or other anti-fans of their story.

"I don't mind it. I think it's good," Gunn then told Rolling Stone how haters actually boost their marketing for not being 100% positive, "I think you don't wanna have everybody root for you. It's all right to have an opposing force every once in a while. I just know that every time something comes out, it doesn't matter how positively received, there's gonna be something that is of great controversy."
