Dark Phoenix has garnered a pretty mixed reception thus far and the movie hasn't even been released yet. Originally set for a November 2017 release, the movie will now be coming out in June 2019. From everything we've seen thus far it seems like this will be some kind of Last Stand remake but with a leading role for Cyclops and no Wolverine.
Screen Rant was able to talk with Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan and asked him how his character has evolved from X-Men: Apocalypse, where he was still a green X-Man. According to Sheridan, fans can expect a much more mature version of the character, though he will have an inner struggle when it comes to dealing with Jean. The two are an item after all.
Considering how Jean might be taking a trip to the dark side, Cyclops will obviously have a hard time trying to take her down, even if it's for the good of Earth. Scott will be working with Charles Xavier and his fellow X-Men but they'll probably struggle as well. Some of them might even side with Magneto in the end, which the first trailer teased.
Scott faced a similar struggle in the comic book version of the Dark Phoenix Saga. At one point, Jean begged Scott to kill her himself but he couldn't do it so she had to use an alien weapon to take her out and save everyone from herself. It was a tragic moment for Scott and one that will need to be replicated in the movie.
Dark Phoenix hits theaters next June.
