Today, CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new update based on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series that's set to premiere on September 13.
During CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners edition of its Night City Wire live-stream, the developer announced the new DLC for its popular RPG game today, September 6.
The new update will seemingly be a story-focused expansion that lets players take the role of David Martinez, the protagonist of Netflix's new anime series by Studio Trigger, the Japanese animation studio best known for Kill la Kill, Inferno Cop, Little Witch Academia, and other titles. The DLC features Martinez in a tale taking place alongside the events of the main Cyberpunk 2077 game.
The DLC also acts as Patch 1.6 and will be the final major update arriving for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
Cyberpunk 2077's first major expansion is making a similar transition, as the developer has announced that it will also be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series when it comes out in 2023.
Titled Phantom Liberty, the new update will seemingly follow protagonist V as they pledge allegiance to the New United States of America - something that Johnny Silverhand, who's confirmed to be returning, doesn't agree with whatsoever.
You can watch the official teaser for Phantom Liberty below:
If you're wondering what Edgerunners will be about, the new anime follows David, a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future known as Night City. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as cyberpunk - after he meets a mysterious hacker named Lucy. He will be fighting Night City's most notorious criminals and cyber-psychods in his mission to become a so-called legend.
