Last week, Disney fired James Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over the inappropriate jokes he made on Twitter. Since his firing, several cast members of Guardians of the Galaxy have shown their support for Gunn on social media, and fans even started a petition to reinstate Gunn as the director of Vol. 3. At that time of this writing, the petition has reached over 335,000 signatures.
Now, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt has shared an open letter to Marvel fans and friends regarding James Gunn's firing, expressing their support and love for the beloved filmmaker.
"Although I don't support James Gunn's inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I'd personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3," Pratt wrote on Facebook in addition to the letter. "If you please, read the following statement- signed by our entire cast."
You can read the entire open letter below.
Personally, I think James Gunn should be reinstated. Sure, his jokes were wrong but everyone makes mistakes and I don't think Disney should fire him just because of his old tweets.
Avengers 4 is set to release in theaters on May 3, 2019.
