Chris Pratt Defends His Voice Performance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie

When it was announced that Chris Pratt is set to voice Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the casting decision was met with divisive responses from fans as a lot of them believe that the actor is not the right choice to voice the character. After all, we have become accustomed to his iconic voice for decades and Pratt is not seen as the ideal candidate to do it.

For the past couple of months, the filmmakers have defended their casting of the Guardians of the Galaxy actor to voice the main character and, until now, there is still some skepticism about whether he is indeed the right choice even after the trailers have been released.

In his recent appearance at BBC's The One Show (via Collider), Pratt discussed why he didn't recreate Charles Martinet's iconic work when he voiced Mario for the film and explained the importance for him to do his own flair on the character that is unique to the movie.

"There are only a handful of things we've ever heard Mario say. The 'wahoo!' A few things like… 'It's-a me! Let's go,' these types of things," he said.

"So we were trying to find a way to put that into the movie, but in a way that would be congruent with a storyline of these working-class American guys from Brooklyn."

While some people are still skeptical of Pratt's voiceover performance as the character, we still need to give them the benefit of the doubt since we still have not seen the entire film and maybe it works better in the context of what they were trying to do in this big-screen animated take on the iconic game.

We should also keep in our mind that Pratt and the filmmakers put a lot of thought into how they are going to approach this version of Mario in the movie and they are also aware of how important the character is generations of people who have played the games throughout the years.

For now, let's just wait and see what the final results will be. Who knows, maybe it will win us over in the end and we will be able to get over the fact that Mario will have a different voice than we have accustomed to.
