The Charmed Season 4 finale concluded the show, but it also started a rift between the original and remake writers.
The original Charmed starred Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, and eventually Rose McGowan as Prue, Piper, Pheobe, and Paige, four sisters and witches who use their powers to protect the innocent. The series developed a cult following, and a reboot aired on the CW in 2018.
CW reboots Charmed
The CW revamped the new Charmed with a more diverse cast and characters, as well as relocating the Charmed sisters from San Francisco to Hilltowne.
The Charmed Ones, Macy, Mel, and Maggie, were played by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery, while Lucy Barrett was introduced to the group as Michaela "Kaela" Danso following Macy's death in Charmed Season 3.
While several fans and cast members of the original series criticized the reboot's seeming lack of connection to the original trio of sisters, the Charmed Season 4 finale surprised viewers with an unexpected link to the original series.
Mel, Maggie, and Kaela jumped to Halliwell Manor via a portal, but Piper, Phoebe, and Paige were missing.
Curtis Kheel not impressed with Charmed Season 4 finale
The Charmed Season 4 finale's ultimate surprise ending renewed the conflict between the show's original writers and the new ones.
The feud started on Twitter, when original series writer Curtis Kheel expressed his dissatisfaction with the series finale, stating that Piper, Pheobe, and Paige "vanquished the 3 imposters after they invaded Halliwell Manor" and Combs blew up the portal.
The new Charmed writers responded by calling Kheel an "a**hole" and that they like both versions of the show.
Not the first spat
This isn't the first time a cast or crew member from the original Charmed has taken issue with the revival on Twitter. Combs chastised the CW's Charmed for not consulting anyone from the original series, and Kheel was confident that she would approve of his judgment of the ending.
In subsequent tweets, Kheel expanded on his statement, emphasizing scenes in which the original Charmed Ones vanquished imposters and dealt with multiverses, which he thought were overlooked in the Charmed Season 4 finale.
