Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels has opened up about the recent cast shake-ups on the show ahead of the 51st season premiere.

For the past few weeks, fans have been receiving news on which cast members have been let go or decided to depart the series as it is approaching its 51st season next month. The shakeup has garnered polarizing reactions as fans felt that some of them should have stayed.

Why is Saturday Night Live Undergoing a Cast Shakeup Ahead of Season 51?

During a red carpet interview at last Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards, Michaels explained why Saturday Night Live had to undergo a cast shakeup ahead of the season 51 premiere.

Michaels added, "Change is good. The people we’re bringing in, I’m really excited about."

Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Please Don't Destroy's John Higgins are all confirmed not to return in the upcoming season.

Who is Joining the SNL Cast in Season 51?

Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Please Don't Destroy's Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska are all expected to join the cast in the upcoming season.

All of them will be part of the ensemble as featured players. They are expected to debut in the season 51 premiere episode, which will air on October 4.

Some of the new cast members have gained popularity on social media and in the stand-up scene before joining the series. Marshall is already familiar to viewers for his participation in the Please Don't Destroy digital sketches.
