Captain Marvel 2 Won’t Have the Same Backlash as the First Movie

Captain Marvel might have been one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019, however, Marvel's very first female-led standalone movie easily became one of the most controversial films of the year. Sure, there were fans that saw the film as another step towards diversity and representation, especially for women, however, there were others that saw the film as propaganda. It didn't help that Captain Marvel star Brie Larson gave out seemingly abrasive answers during the promotional campaign for the film.

Now that Marvel has announced its plans to develop Captain Marvel 2, fans have begun to wonder whether or not the sequel would be just as controversial as the first. Despite all the new petitions popping up asking Marvel to replace Larson as Captain Marvel, Comic Book Review insists that Captain Marvel 2 won't be as controversial as its predecessor.

Taking time to dissect the many reasons behind the backlash against Captain Marvel, the entertainment news site says that the hatred towards Carol Danvers has been dying down. Material fuelling hatred against Captain Marvel is few and far between, and so there are fewer videos coming out criticizing the upcoming movie.

Of course, Marvel has all the time it needs to turn the tide around and dispel the backlash against Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel 2 doesn't have a release date just yet, but many anticipate the film to arrive sometime during Phase 5 of the MCU. That gives enough time for Marvel to work on a positive campaign for Carol Danvers.
