Due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of the movies and shows' original release dates have been either pushed back or delayed indefinitely. In the case of the carefully crafted Phase 4 slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, its entirety has now been changed causing Marvel films to take the release date for what follows. As for the Captain Marvel sequel, a date wasn't officially revealed until now.
Deadine confirms that Captain Marvel 2 officially gets a 2022 release date. The Marvel movie was actually planned to be released on July 29, 2022, but was moved to July 8, 2022. Unlike the other movies in the MCU Phase 4, the Brie Larson feature moves up a bit on the calendar.
As mentioned, the movies that come before Captain Marvel 2 has been pushed back. Black Widow will be taking Eternals' release date of November 6, 2020. Eternals will now open on February 12, 2021, Shang-Chi on May 7, 2021, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness on November 5, 2021, and Thor: Love and Thunder on February 18, 2022. That said, Black Panther 2 remains on its May 6, 2022 spot.
Unfortunately, fans would have to wait a little longer for the highly-anticipated Marvel films to arrive in theaters. Of course, the situation with the pandemic months from now remains to be the seen so the studio has settled with these release dates.
Captain Marvel 2 hits theaters on July 8, 2022.
