Netflix has announced that the singing competition series Building the Band, which includes Liam Payne's final work, will be released this summer.
Following the tragic passing of the One Direction member last October, fans have been wondering when Building the Band will arrive on the streamer or if there will be some major changes in response to Payne's death.
Netflix Sets Release Window for Building the Band
During Netflix's recent upfront presentation, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria confirmed that Building the Band will release on the streamer this summer.
"People will be obsessed with Building the Band coming this summer, hosted by AJ McLean. Contestants will be judged and mentored by Nicole Scherzinger, with Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne," she said on stage.
For months, there have been questions about the future of the series following Payne's death and how Netflix will be dealing with the release.
It is unknown yet how the series will pay tribute to Payne and whether it was heavily edited due to the impact of the tragic event.
Due to the popular musicians who are attached to the project, it has been one of the most highly anticipated upcoming releases on Netflix.
What is Netflix's Building the Band About?
As described by Netflix when the project was officially announced last year, Building the Band will "attempt to answer this question by forming the next great music group without any of the members ever seeing each other."
The talented singers who are competing will be matched with other contestants to form a band based on musical compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit.
Payne, Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls), and Kelly Rowland (Destiny's Child) would have served as the judges as they shared their experiences and expertise with the contestants. The Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean would serve as host.
Additional guest judges would also be invited to help the judges find the next music stars who will follow in their footsteps.
Future viewers of the series were promised to expect "plenty of drama, next-level artistry, and unforgettable performances."
