Captain Marvel set the stage for Avengers: Endgame last month and may have even introduced elements for future movies (Secret Invasion please?), so it's a pretty important film, even if the quality is just alright. Due to the release dates and how the character affects Endgame, many assumed that Captain Marvel was shot before Avengers: Endgame right?
Turns out we're all wrong, as a feature in Empire Magazine (via ComicBookMovie) revealed that Brie Larson shot her Endgame scenes before even starting Captain Marvel. Crazy.
Screenwriter Stephen McFeely revealed that this happened because Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were shot back-to-back. Since they wanted to be on schedule, Larson shot her scenes here first and the directors of Captain Marvel were consulted to make sure Carol Danvers was consistent between both films.
Here's McFeely's explanation:
We can't blame them for doing this but it must have been confusing for Larson, who had to act like an established character off the get-go. At the least, viewers didn't have to go through this dilemma and fans were able to get to know her. Hopefully, a sequel fleshes her out more.
Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26.
