Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan reprised their roles in When Harry Met Sally for a Super Bowl commercial where they recreated the film's most iconic scene.
Last week, Ryan teased that she reunited with Crystal for a special project. At that time, she didn't reveal what they were working on but a lot of fans were happy to see them back together.
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan Reunite in When Harry Met Sally Super Bowl Commercial
Crystal and Ryan reunited recently to reprise their iconic roles in When Harry Met Sally in a new Hellmann's commercial that will broadcast during the upcoming Super Bowl.
The pair recreated the iconic deli scene in the 1989 classic. They filmed the commercial in Katz’s Delicatessen, the exact same diner where they shot the scene 35+ years ago and the same table where their characters also originally sat.
Sydney Sweeney also made a cameo appearance in the commercial where she delivered the iconic line, "I'll have what she's having."
"They both said they hadn’t been back inside Katz’s since they shot the scene, and so we got to be there for the moment when they both walked on set," director Jake Szymanski explained.
"They also hadn’t seen each other in a couple years. So we got to see them walk back into this place, and the memories flood back, and they start remembering and sharing stories and talking about what it was like to film that day."
The director added that Sweeney's cameo was done as a "mini passing of the torch to the next generation" since she has emerged as this generation's new rom-com star.
They also went attention-to-deal in recreating the scene by using the exact same lens that When Harry Met Sally director Rob Reiner originally used.
Is When Harry Met Sally Sequel in the Works?
There are no official plans to do a legacy sequel to When Harry Met Sally. While Crystal and Ryan reunited recently for the commercial, it doesn't indicate that they are doing a real follow-up on the big screen.
Nevertheless, this just shows that the film has a long-lasting legacy and endured many generations of movie fans up to this day as it is still cited as one of the best romantic-comedy films of all time.
"Understanding men and women, the basic principle was, ‘Can they be friends?’ You know, that’s delicate stuff – this was in the late ’80s. It was really high wire," Crystal said of the film's legacy in an interview.
"You have no idea what’s going to happen with any project. We left with a great experience. We still have that in our hearts, and we’ll always have that. And the fact that this movie has endured and is so respected and revered and studied, that is incredibly moving and satisfying."
