Bill Hader's infamous story about his bizarre encounter with Martin Kove went viral recently following the Cobra Kai star's biting incident.
Kove made headlines recently after his Cobra Kai co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim accused him of biting her arm at a fan convention. She decided not to press any charges, but the incident was filed in a police report.
What Happened in Bill Hader's Bizarre Encounter with Martin Kove?
In an interview on WTF with Marc Maron back in 2013 (via EW), Hader shared a story of his encounter with Kove when he was driving for him to set in the late '90s.
"I'm driving him around in my s**ty car, and he got me lost on purpose. He hadn't read the script yet, so he was like, 'Nah, you don't take this. You take Havenhurst. What are you getting on the 405 for?' And I had like a Thomas Guide on my lap," he recalled.
However, when he arrived later, Hader was "screamed at" by his boss and ended up having a "terrible" day.
He continued, "On the way back, we’re driving. It's at night, and we're driving down the freeway. He was like, 'Bill, are you mad at me?'
When Hader responded that he wasn't upset, Kove couldn't let it go, and he asked him whether he wanted a milkshake or a cookie.
"This is the guy from Karate Kid. This is my first Hollywood experience. He goes, 'There's a McDonald's right up here. Pull over, and we'll get you a cookie. We'll get a milkshake,'" he said.
"He comes back out eating the chocolate cookie and the milkshake. And he just sits in the back and goes, 'Come on, let's go.' It was the biggest f*** you."
Hader added, "It was a weird mind f--- of, like, 'I'm gonna get you this thing,' and then he ate it in front of me. And then I just drove home in silence."
That was not the last encounter that Hader had with Kove, as he had to continue driving him to work every day, and they never talked again since then.
"He might be a really nice guy, but I just, for some reason, I rubbed him the wrong way. I don't know what was going on," Hader said.
Did Martin Kove Issue an Apology Over the Biting Incident?
Kove released a public statement in which he offered his apology over the biting incident and expressed regret for his actions.
"I deeply regret and apologize for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia, a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be put in this position," he said.
"I've always respected her and considered her a highly professional and talented co-worker on Cobra Kai. I was being playful in the moment, but went too far, and there is absolutely no excuse for my behavior."
Kove concluded, "I regret my actions, for which I take full responsibility for what I did, and again I apologize to her and her husband. I'm committed to learning from this, and it will never happen again."
Hannah-Kim has not released a statement not shared her response to Kove's public apology.
