Bella Ramsey recently opened up about the backlash on The Last of Us from the online haters and trolls who were vocal about their dislike of the series.

While the second season that aired last spring received critical acclaim and numerous Emmy nominations, it also became the subject of hatred and review-bombing from online trolls. They took issue with some of the changes that were made compared to the game, the introduction of Kaitlyn Dever's Abby, and the exploration of Ellie and Dina's same-sex relationship.

In an interview with The Awardist podcast (via GamesRadar), Ramsey opened up about the backlash that they've been receiving from the haters of The Last of Us, which they "tried to steer clear as much as I could."

"Because there’s nothing I can do about it anyway. The show is out. There’s nothing that can be changed or altered. So I’m like, there’s not really any point in reading or looking at anything," they said.

"People are, of course, entitled to their opinions. But it doesn’t affect the show; it doesn’t affect how the show continues or anything in any way. They’re very separate things to me. So no, I just don’t really engage.

However, Ramsey also has a candid message for the haters who are planning to skip watching the third season.

They said, "You don’t have to watch it. If you hate it that much, the game exists. You can just play the game again. If you do want to watch it, hope you enjoy it."

What to Expect in The Last of Us Season 3

As most fans already know, the second season ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed that the third season will heavily center on Abby.

While most of the details regarding the third season, which has yet to begin production, are still under wraps, showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed that Dever will be the main star of the third season.

"I can’t believe that they let us structure the series in this way, meaning like, we just ended Season 2, and Season 3 is going to be starring — spoiler alert — Kaitlyn," he said.

There was also a major behind-the-scenes change since Neil Druckmann stepped down as the co-showrunner to focus on his projects at Naughty Dog. Mazin is now the sole showrunner for the third season. However, Druckmann will still serve as an executive producer.
