When is Batman: Caped Crusader set, exactly? While the animated series on Prime is technically not canon to the DC Animated Universe timeline, fans would want to know which version of the Dark Knight they're seeing this August. Here's what the executive producer has to say.
Showrunner Reveals Batman: Caped Crusader is Practically An 'Urban Myth'
Created alongside J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, executive producer Bruce Timm is bringing a never-before-seen Bruce Wayne on Prime this August.
Apart from witnessing Batman in his eight-year-old days of mourning the death of his parents, Timm added how the Caped Crusader will stand out among the rest of the hero's series.
According to Timm, Batman is "so early in his career" in the premiere that he is basically considered an "urban myth".
As it turns out, the series is not similar to Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's iconic 1987 Batman origin comic, Year One, which recounted the crime-fighting role the Winged Avenger spent building in Gotham City.
If anything, as Timm suggested, "It's more like 'Week Two'" which potentially means we'll be seeing how the Dark Knight hero navigates his way into the crime-fighting industry in his early days caving out of the Bruce Wayne society knows.
While Batman: Caped Crusader is not sensitive to proposed timelines in the franchise, the fact remains that the series aims to continue what Batman: The Animated Series served for the Dark Knight hero.
It is worth mentioning that aside from the Batman comics, none of the Caped Crusader's movies and series have been canonically set in the 1940s. Bruce Timm's upcoming animation would be the first on its map.
We could potentially witness a different Batman scraping Gotham City to trail down the big bads we've yet to see, and a darker side of his debut that fans would have wanted to get adapted from the pages of the Origins comics.
