Avengers: Endgame Writers Explain Why Captain Marvel Had A Smaller Role

There might have been a lot riding on Captain Marvel's (Brie Larson) appearance in Avengers: Endgame, however, it turns out the film didn't use the character as much as fans would have expected.

Now, speaking in an interview with The New York Times,Endgame script writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have decided to explain why they gave Carol Danvers a relatively small role in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.

"We shot [Brie Larson] before she shot her movie. She's saying lines for a character 20 years after her origin story, which no one's written yet. It's just nuts. Certainly, Captain Marvel is in [Endgame] a little less than you would have thought," the writing duo revealed, "But that's not the story we're trying to tell — it's the original Avengers dealing with loss and coming to a conclusion, and she's the new, fresh blood."

Marvel fans were expecting to see a whole lot of Captain Marvel after the character's successful debut in her own standalone film. However, while Carol Danvers definitely played a major role in the Avengers' victory and in the rescue of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), the character missed many major sequences. This includes the Avengers' mission journeying through time collecting the Infinity Stones to undo Thanos' (Josh Brolin) dusty massacre.

However, we do understand why McFeely and Markus would have wanted to limit Captain Marvel's presence in the film. Not only is Carol Danvers a tad bit overpowered, but Endgame was supposed to focus on the original six members of the Avengers.

What do you think? Should Endgame have had more of Captain Marvel?
