James Cameron has plotted the Avatar franchise up to Avatar 5 ever since the release of Avatar: The Way of Water. Seeing as Avatar 2 featured the Metkayina clan mostly in underwater scenes, Avatar 3 is bound to feature a new Na’vi tribe, fire-wielding Na’vis to be precise, and according to Avatar 2 producer Jon Landau, Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin will be leading the fire Na’vi.
You may know Chaplin best for her role as Talisa in HBO’s Game of Thrones, most specifically, one of the most infamous pivotal episodes in the series, The Red Wedding. Now, it looks like Chaplin will be joining the sequel film as the leading villain, as Landau recently shared with Empire Magazine (via Variety).
Landau described that Avatar 3 is set to introduce a more antagonistic race of the Na’vi, a said group called the Ash People, which is described to be “an aggressive, volcanic race” led by Varang, the very role Chaplin is set to play.
James Cameron teased Avatar 3 to be darker than its predecessors, in which the aggressive tribe led by Varang is “not as peaceful as the Metkayina clan” in Avatar: The Way of Water.
“I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” Cameron shared previously, “In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite.”
There is no doubt that since the Avatar franchise is set to produce Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, the exploration of the broad new world will only keep making the world of Pandora bigger. In fact, Cameron said that Avatar 5 will be set on Earth for a change, where Neytiri will be introduced to where Jake Sully originally lived, as opposed to the corners of Pandora they’ve ventured off to. Apart from Oona Chaplin’s casting, a new narrator will take over Jake’s role in Avatar 3, and that is none other than his son, Lo’ak.
